There are many famous prophets and spirit channelers in history, but who are the world's best trance mediums and leading spirit channels today?
Spirit channeling and trance mediumship is a paranormal phenomenon as old as time. Experts claim that every religion and belief system known to man originated from channeled communication. Myths and legends abound of prophets, mystics, spiritual teachers and shamans channeling messages from the gods and the spirit world. Their stories can be found in the history of many of the world's spiritual traditions, mythologies, religions and tribal culture dating back to prehistoric times.
The most famous spirit channels in history include the priestess Pythia at the Oracle of Delphi in Ancient Greece, who is said to have channeled the sun god Apollo; the Roman prophetess known as Sibyl; the renowned French astrologer Nostradamus in the Middle Ages; as well as Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orléans who heard the voice of God; and The Venetian Piero Nani, a brother of the Order of Charity during the Renaissance. There are also many examples of religious prophets who are said to have channeled divine messages from God, including Zoroaster, Muhammad, Elisha, Miria, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Ezekiel, to name but a few.
The trance medium's gift of prophecy and channeling may seem old-fashioned or even weird to some today, but it is very much alive in this world of science and technology. Just like our ancestors engaged in some form of spirit communication since prehistoric times, we continue to receive spiritual guidance through these gifted modern day prophets. This list aims to bring tribute to some of the top trance mediums in recent times.
What is trance channeling?Trance channeling is a special form of spiritualist mediumship. The channeler serves as a medium or channel through which a spirit communicator or spirit entities can communicate with us. Trance mediums place their own consciousness in the background to allow the spirit being or non-physical communicator to speak through them.
Basically these mediums are able to take a backseat in their own mind and body, while a spirit being or spirit entities speaks directly through their consciousness. This spirit communication can come through the medium in the form of speech (sometimes with a complete change in voice or speaking in foreign languages), automatic writing, art and drawings and even in physical manifestations like facial transfiguration!
Trance mediumship channeling is often misunderstood as a form of spirit communication. It is not the same as psychic mediumship or spiritualism. It does not involve spirit communication bringing messages from the dearly departed in the afterlife. Trance mediums channel messages from highly evolved beings and spirit teachers. The trance channel is also not in a total altered state, because they remain semi-conscious to varying degrees during the channeling session.
Another rumour about channeling is that the trance medium becomes "possessed" by a spirit entity. This is not true! Trance channelers are not completely controlled by the spirit beings communicating through them. They are merely sharing their mental and physical capacity with the non-physical entity so that we can receive their messages in this physical world in a form we can understand.
Trance mediums bring powerful messages and teachings of love, hope and healing to us. If more of us took notice and really listened the world can become a much better place!

Eileen J. Garret
Eileen J. Garrett, The Skeptical Medium | SourceEileen J. Garrett has been described as one of the most respected trance mediums of the 20th century. Her psychic abilities were successfully tested by parapsychology researcher Joseph Rhine in the 1930's and her greatest achievement was the founding of the Parapsychology Foundation in 1951. Eileen channeled four spirit beings when she was in the trance state. They were known as "Uvani", a 14th century Arab soldier, and "Abdul Latif", a 17th century Persian physician, as well as "Tahotah" and "Ramah" who claimed no earthy incarnations. The most fascinating thing about Eileen was that she was possibly the most skeptical medium who ever lived! She never took her mediumship too seriously. "I have a gift, a capacity - a delusion, if you will - which is called 'psychic'... In short, I have been called many things, from a charlatan to a miracle woman. I am, at least, neither of these," she said. For information visit Fst.org.
Trance Channeling - Fake Or Real?
There are many trance mediums and spirit channelers active in the world today, but the quality of their mediumship and their messages vary. How does one know which messages to trust? Theses guidelines will help you recognize the genuine trance channeled messages.
1. Do the messages represent a complete set of teachings and entire philosophy that can answer most, if not all of life's questions? Religions originate from channeled teachings for this very reason. If a trance channel's messages are vague and inconsistent they may not be a reliable source.
2. Does the spirit entity's personality remain consistent over time, or are there dramatic shifts in character or mood. Does the voice and mannerisms of the spirit entity remain characteristic, or does it vary over time? Be skeptical of spirit entities who come across as erratic, unpredictable, emotionally unstable.
3. Do the channeled messages apply to our everyday life, or are they mostly ethereal, mystical, other-worldly, beyond us ordinary people's frame of reference? Spirit entities who bring a message of enlightened consciousness will always address their audience in a real world context and provide answers to the challenges of our daily human reality.
4. Do these messages serve to uplift and empower, or are they negative, confusing, upsetting? Genuine channeled information from a higher source will always offer messages of hope, love, peace, enlightenment and spiritual growth. If a trance medium's channelings do not add significant value to your life and happiness then proceed with caution.
5. Is the message consistent and does it expand over time as the followers of the spirit communicator grow and evolve themselves? The essence of the teachings should remain the same, while also adding new dimensions and enhanced perspectives over time. True spirit communicators will never run out of new things to say and will not be affected much by the lastest trendy topics and fads in the field of spirituality.
